Rob looked around at his desk, littered with coffee cups, take-out wrappers and scraps of paper and realized that he was spending far too many nights at the office again. He loved his job in web software development but it seemed that he spent more time on the information highway than the highway to and from work. Even his computer desktop was cluttered with notes and to do lists. Rob was struck with the thought that he was hiding again. Hiding away from the real world and throwing himself into his career.

To most, Rob appeared to be the typical computer geek. He was quiet, somewhat shy, and he spent most of his time navigating the information highway for one client or another. He also hadn't had a date in so long that he couldn't remember the last time. On top of everything else, Rob was lonely.

Staring at his desktop, trying to decide which task to tackle next, Rob clicked on the icon for his email. Clearing out the spam and unnecessary messages, he noticed yet another advertisement for dating on-line. It wasn't something he had really considered but, then again, given the amount of time he was cruising the information highway, dating on-line suddenly seemed like a pretty reasonable way to meet someone. If nothing else, maybe he'd meet a kindred soul with an equally cluttered desktop!

Not one to be taken in by the first flashy website, Rob did some research and considered a number of possibilities. dating on-line was not going to be like the real world. He wouldn't have to be worried about saying the wrong thing or making a fool of himself because of his nerves. He would be able to create a profile that gave a more accurate picture of what he was really like on this inside. The more he thought about it, the more Rob got interested in creating profiles.

"Let's do this the right way," he thought to himself. Looking at his computer clock, he saw it was 9:30 p.m. - much too late for any sensible soul to be in the office. Rob set about cleaning up his desk and organizing his workspace until it nearly gleamed. Then, he sat down, clicked on the first dating site and took his first tentative steps to making a good impression.
