I have always been quite smart when it came to anything to do with an internet connection. Whether it was which internet browser to use, which web site was most popular and successful, which social network really worked for dating or meeting friends, messengers, I knew it all. So when I was hired by a group of prestige website designers to make a website for the purpose to social network, I was quite pleased with myself.
Of course, as fate would have it. The day before I was meant to start designing the web site my internet connection started acting up. I tried to fix it myself, what a mistake that was. After twelve hours of beating myself up still just trying to find what was preventing the modem from connecting, I just called a computer expert. I didn't get my internet back for three days. However, on the bright side, I noticed the guy must have tweaked something, because my internet connection was a lot faster, and started quicker. So I set about on making the social network. I named it "Radicalz" because I figured maybe teenagers would be attracted to a social network that appealed to the way they talk, and the slang they use.
That was just the beginning though. Let me tell you, making a web site is not as easy as it sounds. I added a base design and ended up redesigning the site over forty times to compensate everything. The login was the hardest part, you wanted it to be conveniently placed to sign in, but at the same time you didn't want it to be too big or too small, or take too much room.
Next I tried to figure out what kind of profile would be the best kind to attract young minds. Did they want to be completely creative? Use html? Or were they more into customizing with simpler codes such as BB code? How big did they want their profile pics? Would it apply to a forum setting? Friends list? Instant messaging? I ended up using html and not adding instant messaging.
In the end though, my site design didn't make it. They apparently were looking for a more simple approach, and something totally different and new compared to myspace. It was a good experience though.
