Tony had worked in web page design for many years, but felt it was time to try something else. He decided after typing in his user name and browsing the online job site that he would apply for the job in front of him. It specified looking for qualified programmer to help set up in house system to run an on-line banking site. The on-line banking site was meant to help the company employees manage their finances better and also had excellent benefits for the successful applicant of the programmer post. Tony sent off his CV by e mail to the company and applied for a few other jobs while he awaited a reply.

About a week later while online Tony's e mail inbox pinged letting him know he had received mail. He typed in his user name to verify his account and his password as his e mail provider always asked you to do if you had left it running in the background for a while. It was just to ensure privacy, yet it still annoyed him slightly as he was the kind of guy who didn't like to wait around and wanted everything yesterday.

He was pleased to find that he had received an e mail asking him to attend an interview for the programmer job in two days time. He dusted off his suit and ironed his shirt, he wanted to make a good impression, he needed this job as the bills were starting to mount up and after being made redundant from his job of 6 years, daytime television just wasn't cutting it any more.

The day of the interview was upon him and Tony was feeling slightly nervous. He knew he wasn't as young as he used to be and his programming skills were slightly dated, but he had used his time out of work to try and brush up and catch up so he hoped that it would help him and give him a head start should he be offered the position. His stomach tied in knots as he looked around at the other men and women waiting to be interviewed. He really felt old in comparison to them. The room he was in was emptying one by one until he was the only one left. He was then called in and interviewed. He was asked the usual questions like 'what do you have to offer the company?' and 'what makes you feel that you are the best candidate for the on-line banking site programmer job. He felt he had answered efficiently and honestly and his resume and references were glowing. The interviewer gave nothing away in her body language, she just said she would be in touch.

On his way home Tony stopped in to see an old freind for a while, and told him about his job hunt. When he arrived home the first thing he did was switch on his computer, he was not confident that his interview was successful and was sure that they woudl employ one of the younger applicants. He logged into his e mail account with his user name and password to find a message from the on-line banking company. He clicked on the message and waited for it to open. It read 'We are happy to offer you the position. Please come in on Monday so that we can go through the contract". That was the news Tony had been waiting for, so maybe vintage was better after all.
