I used to use this Internet Cafe once. It was somewhere in the West End. I didn't have the net at home at the time, finances were a bit tight and this cafe was the cheapest I could find. I'd already had travel covered so it was simply a matter of forking out the money to use The Net. Plus that particular internet cafe was open 24 hours a day which suited me as I'm a night owl.

I used the cafe for a couple of months. The thing is sometimes you don't fully realise the situation you're in 'til you're right out of it. On hindsight, it's not the kind of cafe I'd choose to use ever again. The keyboards were mostly dirty, the one toilet they had was beyond filthy. I just couldn't use it and had to use the McDonald's down the road most of the time. There were also a couple of odd people there as well, more so at the back, so I started sitting towards the front of the cafe. But then, sitting at the front meant that I had to cope with smokers outside when the door was left open - and the cold and the sound of the traffic coming in.

I had to use the net as I had to do some writing work and needed the internet for research. I could have gone to a relatives house - and I'd done so before - but I didn't want to outstay my welcome. I didn't think they'd understand my night-owl tendencies either.

Apart from writing work, I'd make sure I'd give myself a mind break by browsing the net for about 15 to 20 minutes - read the news (especially around travel, politics, celebrity and web development) - read other people's blogs, visit a couple of forums and a social network or two.I'm not as social network savvy as I could be because there are so many out there and there are only so many hours in the day. I'd say the Social Network I visit the most often is MyBlogLog. It's the one I started with and it's the one I'm still with til this day. I'm not as active on it as I used to be, but I still pass by it everyday for a short while.I've got my internet connection back at home now. Thank God for that! On hindsight, I think I was quite brave to use that internet cafe at that time of night - not to mention the night buses I took. Well, that's a whole different story!
